In 1999, the US Air Force initiated Distributed Mission Training (DMT) creating the opportunity for home station training of pilots, air space controllers, and joint forces decision makers, via cockpit and system simulators, in a robust simulated "war" environment. The "Virtual Flag" exercise is a DMT simulation exercise with geographically separated participants electronically tied into a "war" scenario.
Since 2002 PLEXSYS Interface Products, Inc.® has supported the Distributed Mission Operation Center (DMOC), at Kirtland Air Force Base, in its distributed mission training and operations activities with the AWACS Mission Simulator (AMS).
The AMS consists of display consoles emulating mission crew consoles used aboard AWACS aircraft. These consoles are networked with Instructor Operator Stations, which provide both the simulation and scenario generation engine for the training of Air Battle Managers (ABM) and other mission crewmembers. The system also incorporates intercom, DIS voice radio communications modules, and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) capabilities for mission briefing/debriefing functions.
