Renewal and Expansion of ASCOT support to the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control (NAEW&C) NATO Mid Term (NMT) E3A Simulator, Geilenkirchen, Germany

The Advanced Simulation Combat Operations Trainer (ASCOT) Radar Simulator® suite, developed by PLEXSYS Interface Products, Inc®, was installed in the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control (NAEW&C) NATO Mid Term (NMT) E3A Simulator at Geilenkirchen, Germany on 1 April 2008.

On 1 April 2009, PLEXSYS was awarded a one year renewal of this contract to provide direct simulation support to the NMT in operating environment, radar, IFF and data link.

On 11 September 2009, PLEXSYS was contracted to install a second ASCOT suite in support of the second E3A NMT simulator. 

ASCOT is the Environment Generation (EG) framework of the current USAF Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) Mission Training Center (MTC), a fully functional Block 30, E-3C emulator. In the same manner in support of the USAF MTCs, PLEXSYS support of the NATO AEW&C Mission Crew Training system provides the appropriate level of stimulus for mission crew training. The 100% availability of ASCOT since installation has provided a stable and reliable platform from which training capabilities may be maximized.  ASCOT is fully integrated with NMT, and together they create an overall enhancement of the training capability in the mission simulator. "The ability to rapidly create detailed scenarios and at the same time increase realism and flexibility is a major advantage. When exercises or real-world operations will be flown, the ASCOT will allow the component to quickly generate a scenario for the crews to practice on before they go on deployment," said Mr. Edward Visser, Senior Simulation Developer, NATO Training Wing Simulation Operations. Recent scenarios for Red Flag and Alaska Red Flag have been already practiced, in advance of these upcoming events.

The AWACS MTC and the ASCOT provide the USAF Distributive Mission Operations (DMO) initiative with command, control, communications and integration functions.
