The Advanced Simulation Interface Buffer (ASIB) is a combined hardware/software package designed specifically to interface to the E-3 legacy Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) mission crew simulator appearing as a radar subsystem, an IFF/SIF subsystem, and an Inertial Navigation System (INS) subsystem. It is capable of replacing a number of less advanced systems such as the Tactical Data and Radar Simulation Interface Units (TDSIU and RSIU respectively) along with providing the primary interface to more modern Distributed Interactive Simulators (DIS). ASIB is also capable of providing a live air picture to the E-3 operations system from the JSS interface. This capability has proven successful in providing live training to aircrews without having an E-3 aircraft leave the ground under the Mission Simulator Live Intercept Training Environment (MSLITE) process.

Five (5) cables are required to connect the ASIB with the Boeing Mission Crew Simulator (MCS) Computer Power Supply (CPS). The connections are:

 1. Radar Azimuth Connector
 2. Interrogator Azimuth Connector
 3. Interrogator Reports Connector
 4. Navigation computer-to-CPS Connector
 5. Radar Reporst Connector

Cable length varies by site location.
